Dirt is Flying!

When the work begins, the work really begins!  Things are happening quickly at the new home of Kolar Chevrolet on Arrowhead Road.  Large machinery, piles of dirt, and a great deal of transformation.  Already, the area has become unrecognizeable.

Where long time storage building once stood and employee vehicles were parked is now a hub of activity and the smell of fresh dirt.  Much of the current work is to make parking areas for the employees while the project is underway.

The lot on the westerly most section of the site is being lowered to sub grade in some areas as much as 7 feet.  A couple feet of class 5 will eventually raise it back up to final grade.

As the dirt from these strips is removed into the large off road dump trucks, they haul it to the east side of the site to build up the east side to grade.  You can see now on the very east side the final grade of the display area starting to be at final grade.

The lower valley area behind Sherwin Williams and Batteries Plus is blocked off with the silt fence and there will be some action going on in there from time to time.

So things are really happening.  With cooperation from the weather the site could be balanced and graded to allow for showroom footings within a couple of weeks!  Wow, things are moving fast from here!

Take a drive by and check out the action and stay tuned for more information!

The work has begun!

On August 11, 2011 Kolar Automotive Group celebrated their upcoming construction project with a Groundbreaking Ceremony.  It was a great time!  This was the true 'kick off" to this anticipated project that has been in the making for many months.  Check out the video below, and thank you again to all who attended!

Since that time, Kolar has spent a great deal of time doing some of the not so fun parts of such a large project- permits, plans, paperwork.  I can hardly imagine the amount of paperwork and coordinating that has gone on behind the scene.   Well, today it has really come to fruition- the equipment is being delivered!

Northland Construction is delivering the "big guys" to get the job done.  When this equipment is described as "big guys" that is no understatement.  It was reported that one of these off road dumps moves up to 40 tons of material in one shot!  Now that, is some serious moving.

Now things will start changing at a rapid pace.  Before long, the empty lots we have all been accustomed to seeing in the last few weeks will be transformed as the foundation for the new Kolar Chevrolet Buick GMC building is laid out.  The projected completion date is set for September 2012.

Stay tuned- this is going to be a ton of fun (no pun intended)!

Groundbreaking Ceremony was a hit!

Yesterday at 10am a large crowd gathered at the new location for the Kolar Chevrolet Buick GMC dealership, 4770 West Arrowhead Road, Duluth.  This is the former location of the Runway Bar & Grill.  This was a day of excitement, hope, and anticipation for employees, owners, community officials, friends, family, and neighbors.

Everything fell together perfectly!  The weather was beautiful, if a bit windy, and the atmosphere was even better.  Check out some of the photos and the link to the news story!

It Really is Happening!

In the past several months Kolar Automotive Group has been making plans and putting into motion a huge construction project on Arrowhead Road in Hermantown, MN.  To many this does not come as a surprise, but to some I am sure you have wondered what is going on in this section of Hermantown.  Where there used to sit a few large storage buildings and the Runway Bar and Grill is now empty and barren with the exception of construction equimpment and dirt lots.  We have seen the storage buildings torn down, the bar disappeared and the lots become vacant.  All of this is in preparation of Kolar Automotive Group placing their brand new Kolar Chevrolet Buick GMC building that is planned to take the place of the landmarks we are accustomed to seeing there.

Things around the three dealerships have been a buzz of excitement and anticipation for many months now as plans have been dreamed, planned, changed, and rumored.  It is in the next few days that all of this preparation and planning will truly start coming to fruition.   The blueprints are ready, the contractors are lined up, the ground work has been laid.  Now, we are moving into the next phase- construction!  Next week Kolar Automotive Group will be holding a "Ground Breaking Ceremony" at the building site!

Over the next several months, we will be updating you on our progress and plans all the way up to move in date!  We are excited to have you along on this journey and appreciate your support.

Sincerely,

Kolar Automotive Group
